Locations

Programs take place in the heart of the Ottawa Valley. Locations vary depending on the particular program. Time is spent on the organic and sustainable Half Moon Farm, on the Madawaska River & in Algonquin Park.

Half Moon Farm

Turning off the backwoods country road, you would think one couldn't get any deeper in to the wilderness. The forest floor blanketed before you, the sun sparkling through the shadows of leaves of maples, poplar and balsam, the sweet fresh air consumes your senses. Entering the Half Moon Farm of rolling hills, rock pile fences, and stretching fields of wild flowers can be described as no less than exquisite. arising's base camp is located on a 300 acre organic farm, 4 hours north-east of Toronto in the heart of the Ottawa Valley, approximately half-hour south-east of Algonquin Park.

Our program's portion of workshops, etc, is delivered out of "The Bunkie", one of the three live-in buildings on the property, which are all run entirely on sustainable energy sources. The Bunkie instantly brings a sense of warmth, with its beautiful hardwood floors and its many windows offering dreamy views. The area surrounding the Bunkie is filled with lush and plentiful organic flower, herb and vegetable gardens. Sheep, work horses, cows, cats, George the farmer and his gentle and trusty dog Pipsi are all part of the story book landscape.

accommodations

Accommodations are located in the heart of the Half Moon Farm. You will have either the option of sleeping in the loft of the Bunkie where all the activities and meals will be based out of or in a tent underneath the beautiful starry northern sky. The Bunkie is an open environment and sleeping space is shared with others.

transportation

Participants should seek out and arrange their own transportation to Half Moon Farm. However, arising will facilitate and assist organizations and individuals in accessing transportation through the use of carpooling and rentals.

water

Although the Bunkie is a dreamy retreat cabin, it does not have running hot water or indoor plumbing. When you need to refresh yourself an out side shower will be available and there is a beautiful pond within a two minute walk away that is calling for early morning dips.

organic cuisine

During arising trips all food will be cooked communally. In groups, participants will take turns creating meals. These meals will be crafted in an environment filled with laughter, singing and togetherness.

All food prepared on an arising trip will be fresh, whole, organic and vegetarian. The majority of the produce will be harvested by participants directly from the rich soil of Half Moon Farm. A concerted effort will be made to purchase food produced locally or purchased at local community stores.
